The term "parable" in Greek ( parabole ) signifies "placing beside or together," indicating a comparison or similitude used to illustrate one subject by another [1]. Jesus frequently employed parables, drawing on everyday life to convey profound spiritual truths. For instance, the Sermon on the Mount, while initially addressed to disciples, attracted crowds who were struck by Jesus' direct authority, unlike the scribes who relied on quoting previous scholars [15]. This suggests that while his teaching was authoritative, its accessibility through relatable examples resonated widely.
Biblical texts themselves provide numerous examples of this balance. The Psalms, for example, encourage reflection on the brevity of life to cultivate wisdom: "Teach vs so to nomber our dayes, that we may apply our heartes vnto wisdome" (Psalm 90:12, Geneva 1599) [2].
