God's Providence in Uncertain Circumstances and Trials
Divine providence refers to God's continuous activity of preserving and governing all things through secondary causes [1]. God's providence is understood to be at work even in uncertain circumstances and trials. This protection is afforded to those who heed God, returning sinners, the pure in heart, and the poor [7]. When afflicted, saints are assured that God is with them, acts as a refuge, comforts them, preserves them, and delivers them [8]. The ways of God's providence can be profound and sometimes inscrutable to human understanding [6, 11]. However, despite the mystery, the belief is that nothing occurs by chance; rather, everything is guided by God's will and counsel [10]. In times of distress, believers are encouraged to pray, presenting their affliction to God for His compassionate consideration [13]. The expectation is that God will act in His wisdom, time, and way [13].
