God's Sovereign Purpose in Deliverance from Evil
God's sovereign purpose in delivering humanity from evil is a central theme in biblical theology, rooted in the understanding of God's absolute authority and his active involvement in the world [5, 6]. The concept of God's sovereignty means that he has the absolute right to act according to his own good pleasure [5]. The Apostle Paul, for instance, expresses confidence that "The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will save me unto his heavenly kingdom" [2]. John Calvin notes that while humans may contrive destruction, God can effect deliverance from above, governing human counsels and wills to achieve his purposes [11].
