God's Sovereignty in Christian Transformation and Spiritual Growth
God's sovereignty is His absolute right to act according to His own good pleasure in all things [2]. This divine prerogative extends to the transformation and spiritual growth of believers, a process often described as growing "in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" [5, 7]. This growth is not merely human effort but is deeply rooted in God's active involvement.
The new birth, which initiates spiritual transformation, is "effected by God" through Christ and the Holy Spirit [6]. It is described as a "new creation" and "newness of life," emphasizing its divine origin rather than human will or merit [6]. This initial act of God's sovereignty sets the stage for ongoing spiritual development.
Christ's power and authority are central to this process. He is described as supreme, unlimited, and having power over all things [1]. His excellency and glory as God, the Son of God, and one with the Father underscore His capacity to effect change in believers [3, 8]. The ascension of Jesus to a position of authority over all creation further highlights His sovereign rule [12].
