Scriptural Authority in Church Leadership and Governance

The Apostle Paul further elaborates on the church as a unified body with many members, each having a specific function determined by God [5, 7]. Each local church is seen as a miniature representation of the entire body of Christ, with individual members occupying their assigned places [6].
The Bible also outlines qualifications for church leaders, such as elders and deacons. For instance, 1 Timothy 3:1-13 details character requirements for these roles [12]. These criteria emphasize character over specific functions and were partly a response to local heresies, serving to publicly demonstrate the unfitness of certain individuals for leadership [12].
The authority exercised within the church is ultimately derived from God's power, which is described as great, strong, glorious, mighty, everlasting, sovereign, effectual, irresistible, and incomparable [4]. This divine power is expressed through God's voice, finger, hand, and arm [4]. The "voice of the Lord" is also understood to be powerful and full of majesty, particularly in the context of the Gospel's transformative effect [13].
